Have you looked at LCD sets? They are better in ambient light. If your room is light controlled - stick with Plasma but ready up on the latest LCD 1080p sets from Sony (Bravia), Samsung, Vizio, Sharp and many others. I think there are more than 10 reviewed here

Receivers - you are looking at all of the right stuff. I like Denon and Yamaha. The Onkyo and Inegra lines are also very popular. Check out this list of receivers at

Blu-ray is tricky but DO NOT GO WITHOUT ONE. 1080p is the ANSWER. I use the Sony BDP-1. The Pioneer is good too - very similar. Read about the $16,900 Goldmund one for fun. There is a matching Panasonic player reviewed here too.

What are you going to do about Universal remote? KennyT uses Harmony which are cheap, good and EASY to program. Others like Universal Remote (UMC). Philips Pronto is another good solution. There are about 12 reviewed here
