Wrong,
The iLink (Firewire) will transmit a fully digital MC Audio signal, and totally bypass the DAC's in the player. I not well versed in the UZ-1, I own a DV-50s, and it allows analog outs, which is how I use it. I have the D2, it's a nice unit, and feature rich, but the Meridian 861v4 is a far nicer unit, match that to a G98DH or 800v4 and you've got one of the best MC audio set ups I've ever heard. DO realize Meridian only does DVD-A, so you'll need the MC analog in for SACD.....

Yes, this is what I was looking at as well, except instead of the Meridian DVD player perhaps a good Universal player modded to work with the Meridian by www.switch-box.com
I guess it would not even have to be an absolute high end player as long as the transport was well made since all the on-board D/A would be done by the 861. Am I on the right track here? |

I didn't know about the switch box site!!!! That is pretty cool. I think you will find the DACs in the 861 are excellent.

Nice.
Not very familiar with Meridian gear so I am expecting good things. Is the 861 a big improvement over the G68 XXV ?? Switchbox is a very clever contact. I'd hold onto that link. They only list a couple of players they mod for the Meridian but word on the street says he will do the majority of Universal players given to him. |

I hear the G series is 90% of the 861, but I never had the G in my system, but many of our reviewers who's ears I value have them and love them. The G series isn't really upgradable like the 861, nor is it modular, so you are stuck with what you buy, where as the 861 can be updated to add new features and options. For me, the 861 was the easy choice, but your system and wallet will need to decide what works best for you.
