I need to upgrade my existing rear projection tv; currently an older Mitsubishi 73233. I want to be able to view Blue Ray on 24 frames/ 120hz refresh rate; with great color; detail; and brightness for a viewing room with too many windows; and not set up for a projector. Room is very big. I'm intrigued by the recent release of the Diamond 73835; it appears to consume less power than the prior model; and has a good picture. I understand their new laser is pending release in Ocotber; don't know pricing or size; or weight; or how it will compare to dlp; or lcd. Initial reviews seemed to suggest colors almost too vivid...
My experience is that first generation of new technology is always fraught with problems; and they fix it the next year; and lower the price. So; do I buy the current 73835; wait until Ocotber; and see if this set's price drops with the release of the laser; or bite the bullit and buy the laser on first release.... |

Since prices will probably drop, you might want to wait. You might also consider the Samsung HL67A750: http://reviews.cnet.com/projection-t...-32915921.html
LEDs have many of the same advantages as laser light source. |

Rex; Thanks for the suggestion...the biggest Samsung in this series is their 67"; and I am looking for a large screen to accomodate my room size. This unit is also a DLP set; with very good performance numbers..I did not find that it uses LED's as its light source....what quality LED's are out there for me to consider? I will curb my impulsive spending behavior; and wait until October; and see what's out at that time...

Although there is little official information, the latest rumors are that the 73 incher may not be out until Dec, even if the 65er is released in Oct. For the latest rumors and speculation about possible reasons for the delays, check out this thread:

I have heard from my friend (the guy who put Vidikron on the map) that this laser deal is the real deal. Seriously. Better than Plasma and LCD without a question.
I have yet to see it but its on my CEDIA short list. More news at 11.
