Question: JL Audio, DefTech, or Sunfire? For the money which would you choose? Or another.

I'll chime in, subwoofers can be tricky, and like everything in this field, it depends on your situation....

Room size, your needs and wants, system matching, and of course $$$.

I could be happy with any of them depending on the system and my criteria for a sub. Do you want something to fill a 25'x30' room with cathedral ceilings or a 12'x18' with 9' ceilings? Budget also comes into play. Do you want a sub for two channel listening (again back to what is the rest of your system) or only for LFE from movies?

All of these subs are very good and priced well, I would also add the Paradigm's for price/performance ratio. Which is 'best' for you and your situation depends on so many variales and is not a simple answer.

I certainly agree with kennyt. This is a decision, like buying a pair of speakers(no one hears exactly the same) you have to weigh all factors. If, we take the Sunfire Signature, on its own, you can argue that for its size and price when paired with other subwoofers priced much higher than itself, it might be one the best values in subs, period.

But, you can not look at it that way. Hopefully, you will find a dealer that will allow you some sort of a trial period, to demo different subs. So, you can make the proper decision.

The room is apprx. 20'x16' with 10' ceiling. It is also in an open floorplan that is pretty expansive. I would like to serve the purpose of movie watching impact, as well as, 2 channel listening.

The problem with auditioning is that the other speakers in the system may have fuller/less bass than my system and of course room accustics will be totally different.

Maybe I did not explain myself fully. My suggestion was that you find a dealer that will allow you to take a Sunfire subwoofer home with you for a trial period. This way, you can set it up with your speakers, in your room, with your acoustics. Maybe you can even have his help. Good dealers who are looking to form meaningful customer relationships and future business, do this kind of thing.
